Ridgewood Water is a village-owned groundwater utility drawing from the Brunswick aquifer and serving about 61,000 residents in Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Midland Park and Wyckoff. Its first PFAS treatment facilities, Carr and Twinney, came online in 2019 and 2022, and the utility is building out a network of a dozen plants at a cost of more than $100 million.
Progress is real but not finished. In the second quarter of 2026 the utility reported 18 monitoring points above New Jersey’s 14 ppt PFOA limit, with running averages as high as 36 ppt, and four points above the 13 ppt PFOS limit. The federal standard is 4 ppt. Several plants are still under construction and one has slipped to 2027, and a PFAS surcharge appears on every quarterly bill.
